KRISTIN MUELLER

COMBO - BALLET

Kristin started dancing at age four at a recreational studio in Deerfield, Wisconsin. She began by taking just Ballet for many years, but eventually expanded to all dance forms.  After 14 years at her dance studio, Kristin attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and got into the Peck School of Arts for dance. There, she received professional training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Body Movement, and African Dance.  In 2010, Kristin received her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance, Sociology, Women’s Studies, and Psychology of Women and Children. In college, she took dance class every day, not only learning technique, but also the history of each genre, and how to teach dance. The education she received helped her better understand not only how to become a better dancer, but also to understand how children’s minds work and the ways she could change their self-esteem and personal value through dance.

Being creative and imaginative in dance has been integral in Kristin’s teaching technique and the evolution of her curriculum in the classroom. She always strives to gear every student’s learning style by utilizing descriptive imagery, guided improvisation, props, and developmentally appropriate motor skill growth.  The vulnerability shown for this type of teaching is the gift that children yearn for. She knows as a teacher we’re creating a magical place where we let down our guards and become everything we’re telling them to make belief. That stays with students as they grow into adolescence.  Students have to know they are capable and the only way to build that is confidence.  Being able to release their own silly and creative emotions they feel in the class allows them to believe in the person they see in the mirror.  Kristin wants students to know that dance is their safe place, a place to express who they are.

Kristin Mueller is the mother of three children; Jackson, Adleigh, and Isla of which are all young dancers.  She met her husband Camden in 2006 at her childhood dance studio and  have been together since. She taught dance to ages 2-18 at Brodhead Dance Academy in Wisconsin for almost a decade observing how imaginative and creative curriculum shapes students and how it benefits them as they grow into confident advanced dancers, and thriving adults. Recently, her family decided to make their life goal come to fruition and move from the Midwest to the South.  Now located in Pooler, she teaches dance at Savannah Dance Company, Savannah Cultural Arts Center, and is a Curriculum Developer at Once Upon a Ballet where she creates curriculum for teachers and studios all around the world to bring magic into classrooms.   Kristin is beyond grateful to be a member of the SDC family and is excited to share her love of dance and allow children to light up and grow in this beautifully inspiring art form.
